Reading the federal criminal complaint against Donald Trump was akin to a hallucinatory experience, where the words yielded to flashes of imagination that pixilated into grainy images in my mind’s eye. It was like a movie unfolding with Trump and his valet squirreling boxes filled with America’s most sensitive secrets all around Mar-a-Lago — like Lord Grantham and his faithful Bates hiding a surprise from Lady Mary at Downton Abbey. Apparently everyone knew, including the Dowager Countess, and they all cooperated fully with the FBI investigation.
Here is what Trump had in his possession:
The classified documents Trump stored in his boxes included information regarding defense and weapons capabilities of both the United States and foreign countries; United States nuclear programs; potential vulnerabilities of the United States and its allies to military attack; and plans for possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack. The unauthorized disclosure of these classified documents could put at risk the national security of the United States, foreign relations, the safety of the United States military, and human sources and the continued viability of sensitive intelligence collection methods.
The alleged crimes are serious and his breaches are a deep betrayal of Trump’s oath of office, duties, responsibilities and obligations. He did not protect the Americans in harm’s way whom he endangered with his brazen incompetence and malice. It also demonstrated that Donald Trump is an imbecile of the highest conceivable level. He is a supernova of narcissistic idiocy. The US government literally begged him to return the documents, but he would not. He just wouldn’t do it. He wanted them.
His petulance is simply staggering to comprehend. Donald Trump is a real-life, combined Veruca Salt and Augustus Gloop. He is sloppy, spoiled, self-indulgent, destructive, arrogant, selfish, and ultimately, a cartoon villain who exists in flesh and blood. He is America’s toxic clown, our most dangerous fool and gravest danger. He is the perfect reflection of what is most broken and corrupted in our land. Donald Trump is America’s champion of indecency, dishonesty, treachery and weakness. He is a liar, a nihilist and an extremist, who stands for himself against the ideals that America proclaims — faith and fidelity — but none of this is new.
We have arrived at the tragic destination that was always inevitable. This moment has come because the American people allowed it to happen. We gave Donald Trump political power by choice. The American people elected him in 2016.
Thousands of elected Republican officials at the local, county, state and federal level capitulated to his insanity and venality through a thousand acts of cowardice, appeasement and fearful submission. They allowed him to lie at will, grift at will and abuse his power at will. There was never any bottom because there was never any barrier or net to stop Trump from swimming lower. There was no degenerate statement, no malfeasant action, or disgraceful conduct that would break their devotion, which was built on silence, accommodation and deference to actions they had once disdained and condemned. Donald Trump became more important for them than everything, including their integrity, honor and country.
The evidence is the fanatical defense of Trump against the indictment. Fundamentally, the GOP response is an attack on the American justice system that rivals their collective and years’ long attack on the American electoral system.
These attacks are a societal cancer, and they threaten to kill American democracy. The overwhelming majority of elected Republicans have long ago decided that there is no issue or solution that is more urgent or important than Donald Trump’s ego and feelings. There is no national purpose or challenge that is greater. There is no sacrifice that has ever been made in the defense of liberty, the creation of the republic, or its sustainment that ranks above Donald Trump’s whims and feelings. What is true is what Trump says is true. If he wants something, he gets it, and that’s the way it is. John F. Kennedy Jr. once asked a rhetorical question: what is the purpose of a political party if not for the achievement of a great national purpose? The answer is, of course, that there is none.
What purpose does the Republican Party have in this moment? What do they stand for beyond Trump and his lies?
There is no person who has ever held a security clearance and been trusted with government secrets who is not shocked, dismayed and alarmed after reading the indictment. Any person who cares about America’s national security would be. There is no question or debate about that. The question at hand is this: why does seemingly no one — with the exception of a small number, like Senator Mitt Romney — in one of the two parties care? That is the abomination. It is far more dangerous to our future than Trump’s alleged criminality. In the end, America’s politicians can only take the rope they are given by the American people. We should be careful we never give them enough with which to hang us.

We can anticipate many things to unfold in the next days, given the track record & parts said out loud by the agents of chaos controlling the criminal conspiracy surrounding defendant Trump & co.
Immediately they will begin protesting early vote counting, since it can't be counted until Election Day, and is increasingly popular. Trump & co will claim, like every time, that votes are "being found". Dirty tricks of every scope, prepare for violence at counting facilities, as in Bush vs Gore FL, which was decided when the count was forced to end, by only thousands of votes.
Americans must prepare also for the unfortunate rise of anti-democratic regimes in parts of the country, most notably AZ. Fascism being promoted openly, here & around the world. We will be facing future elections where some states will refuse to certify or decide by one party's denial of results.
It seems grim to contemplate that these may be the last days for functioning democracy in America, or partly surviving democracy, given the brutal assaults of the past 4 years. In reality, as of the Election Day 2022, democracy is dwindling & hanging by a thread.
Justice & truth cannot keep up with the overwhelming onslaught of attacks, "destabilization", "active measures", "war by other means", here in America & elsewhere around the world, criminal corruption & chaos unleashed in a coordinated effort to end democracy & replace with "strong" madmen, as mainstream media continues to normalize the insanity & is replaced with fascistic propaganda, militarism & distraction, thanks to ultra-rich monkeywrenchers like Murdoch & Musk.
We will all be expected to become weapons of some sort, or keep quiet while they force everyone to obey their regime of corruption & control. Look where it is operating already: Russia, Belarus, Hungary, China, Myanmar, N. Korea, Syria, actually a very large chunk of the world, going further far-right & grotesquely unfree.
To keep the oil flowing, the drugs being sold, the weapons being marketed, the forests being cut down, the oceans being strip-mined & over-harvested, the minerals & gems being dug from the bowels of the Earth, how sad to contemplate the paradise we could be living in if the criminals & monsters hadn't won all of those battles of the past century, & even when they lost, well they're still here in the guise of TV- show monsters & their ugly monstrous rallies, & then their inevitable xenophobic attacks & violence.
VOTE because this may be the last election that can be fairly counted. VOTE because the criminal conspiracy surrounding Trump & co have made it very clear what they intend: to f*ck sh*t up & crash the system, keep demonizing any opposition & threatening violence. This is not politics, friends, this is mobster bullsh*t. This is an ongoing coup. A violent conspiracy that should have been held to account, halted, with many many people put in jail, including the lead perp/IMPOTUS ring-leader & his mob.

Jared Kushner's Saudi Money Merits DOJ Scrutiny, Former Trump Lawyer Says
Donald Trump's ex-lawyer Michael Cohen said the Department of Justice (DOJ) should probe Jared Kushner's ties to Saudi Arabia after the former president was indicted for allegedly mishandling classified documents post-presidency on Thursday.
A grand jury indicted Trump on 37 charges ranging from willful retention of classified documents to obstruction charges in connection to the investigation into whether he mishandled classified documents after leaving office in January 2021 led by special counsel Jack Smith. Federal prosecutors are accusing the former president of mishandling sensitive presidential records and obstructing government efforts to retrieve them. Trump, however, has maintained his innocence, accusing prosecutors of investigating him for political reasons.
Cohen, who for years served as Trump's personal attorney before turning on him, said the investigation warrants focus on Trump's son-in-law's ties to Saudi Arabia during an appearance on MSNBC's The Katie Phang Show on Saturday.
Kushner's ties to Saudi Arabia were subject to renewed scrutiny after The Washington Post reported in February that Saudi Arabia gave $2 billion to Kushner's Affinity Fund from a sovereign wealth fund that was chaired by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Trump administration forged closer ties to Saudi Arabia than previous administrations, oftentimes attracting criticism due to a myriad of controversies surrounding Riyadh.
"I think the DOJ should be, if they're not already, looking at the unholy relationship that exists between Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Bin Salman, and Jared Kushner," Cohen said.
He continued to say why he believes why this aspect of the investigation could be necessary, explaining: "I mean this whole $2 billion to an unqualified hedge funder makes no sense to me. And in light of the information that came out that there was military information on Iran, and we all know that Saudi Arabia has had Iranian aggression on their mind for a long time. Who knows what was shown to them, who knows what was discussed, who knows what was sold?"
The indictment alleged that Trump allegedly discussed keeping a classified military document about a potential attack against "country A" during a July 2021 meeting at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club. The document redacted the specific country, but CNN previously reported the document pertained to a potential attack on Iran.
Cohen said on Saturday he is confident that federal investigators "will find a lot of information" by looking into the Trump administration's Saudi ties, suggesting that Trump could have "profited" from these ties
